<Josh Malihabadi>, born Shabbir Hasan Khan on December 5, 1898, in Malihabad, British India, was a renowned Urdu poet and a prominent figure in the Progressive Writers' Movement. He adopted the pen name "Josh" (meaning "passion" or "intensity") and later added "Malihabadi" (referring to his birthplace) to become known as Josh Malihabadi. He is also known as "Shayar-e-Inqalab" or <Poet of Revolution> due to his revolutionary writings.
Josh Malihabadi's poetry often reflected his liberal values, challenged the established order, and resonated with themes of social and political revolution, love for the depressed and poor, and patriotism. His life and works continue to be studied and admired in both India and Pakistan.
